Carlos Óscar Sánchez Sorzano is B.Sc. and M. Sc. Electrical Engineering with two specialities (Electronics and Networking, Univ. Málaga), B. Sc. Computer Science (Univ. Málaga), B.Sc. and M. Sc. in Mathematics, (speciality in Statistics, UNED) and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (Univ. Politécnica de Madrid). He served as secretary of the Dept. of Engineering of Electronic and Telecommunication Systems of the Univ.  CEU-San Pablo (Madrid) between 2005 and 2008, coordinator of the Section on Signal and Communications theory between 2004 and 2009, head of the Bioengineering Laboratory of that University since 2007, director of the Summerschool on  Advanced Data Analysis and Modelling since 2006, and codirector of the Master on Computational Biotechnology between 2007 and 2009. He did his Ph.D. at the Biocomputing Unit of the National Center of Biotechnology (CSIC), and a post-doc at the Biomedical Imaging Group of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). In 2006 he received the Ángel Herrera research prize. He is senior member of the IEEE since 2008 and that same year he was accredited as "profesor titular de universidad" by ANECA. In 2009 he was appointed as "Profesor Agregado" at Univ. San Pablo CEU, awarded a Ramón y Cajal research contract and appointed as technical director of the INSTRUCT Image Processing Center for Microscopy.

Carlos Óscar Sánchez Sorzano es Ing. de Telecomunicación con dos especialidades (Electrónica y Telemática) e Ing. Téc. en Informática de Sistemas, ambos por la Univ. de Málaga, Lic. en Matemáticas (con la especialidad de Estadística) por la Univ. Nacional de Educación a Distancia, y Dr. Ing. en Ing. Biomédica por la Univ. Politécnica de Madrid. Fue secretario del Departamento de Ing. de Sistemas Electrónicos y de Telecomunicación de la Univ. San Pablo CEU entre los años 2005 y 2008, coordinador del área de Teoría de la Señal y las Comunicaciciones entre 2004 y 2009, director del Lab. de Bioingeniería desde 2007, y de la Escuela de Análisis y Modelado Avanzado de Datos desde 2006. Entre 2007 y 2009 fue codirector del Máster Oficial de Postgrado en Biotecnología Computacional. El Dr. Sorzano realizó su tesis en la Unidad de Biocomputación del Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CSIC) y una estancia post-doctoral en el Grupo de Imágenes Biomédicas del Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne. En 2006 recibió el Premio Ángel Herrera de Investigación. Desde 2008 es miembro senior de la IEEE y en ese mismo año fue acreditado como profesor titular de universidad por la ANECA. En 2009 fue nombrado Profesor Agregado en la Univ. San Pablo CEU, se le concedió un contrato de investigación Ramón y Cajal, y fue nombrado director técnico del Centro INSTRUCT de Procesamiento de Imágenes de Microscopía.
